The GX-55 is Topcon’s newest Operator Interface device for use with their 3D-MC GPS Machine Control system. The IP67 rated GX-55 is smaller, lighter, more powerful and easier to use than any other comparable machine control interface. It provides the operator with real-time feedback and control via the integrated LED light bar and mm-accurate site information via the high resolution, daylight visible touch screen.
A configurable, powered ‘backpack’ mounting system allows the user to switch between portrait and landscape mounting options in the field.
The GX-55 design was driven by real-world requirements and innovative thinking. It is positioned to reinforce Topcon’s reputation as the Machine Control leaders.
The GX-55 was designed to fit into space-constrained cabs of earth-moving machinery. Displays need to be mounted in the operator’s field-of-view and this often means mounting on the dashboard in very close proximity to the windscreen. The GX-55 was designed to be the slimmest unit in the market to allow for this. The overall interface size also needed to be minimized, as some of the equipment (small bulldozers and excavators) have very little room at all to mount computer displays. Furthermore, buttons and USB socket and loudspeaker are front-facing to allow for integrated flush mounting in the dash of some larger machines.
The GX-55 leads the market with the smallest Machine Control Interface available (with 7” screen size). The colour LED light bars adjacent to the screen, provide real-time pitch, roll and yaw feedback within the operator’s field-of-view, eliminating the need for external devices. This reduces operator fatigue and increases accuracy and productivity whilst reducing cabin clutter.
The high brightness 7″ touch screen is designed for use with gloves and displays Topcon’s embedded 3D-MC software. The forward-facing speaker is optimized for use in high ambient noise environments and is capable of full speech frequency range operation.
The main interface decal on the GX-55 contains complex electronics and provides application specific buttons, LED arrays and backlighting. This design configuration allows future custom decals for specific applications to be designed without redesign or remanufacture of the main housing. For example, decals with alternative button and LED arrangements can be created. It also provides a means for OEM customers (eg Komatsu, Caterpillar etc) to display their custom logos without design modification to the main housing. Integrating LEDs and buttons etc into the decal helps give the product it IP67 rating by eliminating the number of openings in the enclosure, thus preventing water & dust ingress.
